Revised plans for Friendship Court development unveiled

The Piedmont Housing Alliance last week submitted a new draft of its redevelopment plans for the publicly supported Friendship Court apartments, though it has not yet settled on how many homes and how much non-residential space the project will encompass.

The preliminary site plan is remarkably different from an initial draft of a 2-year-old master plan — it has fewer residences and construction phases, as well as a new building layout on the nearly 12-acre site in downtown Charlottesville.

If all goes according to plan, construction could begin as soon as late 2019, said Sunshine Mathon, Piedmont Housing’s executive director. The final cost of the redevelopment is not yet known, officials said.
