City panel turns away Carlton Ave. project again

The Charlottesville Planning Commission has again denied a rezoning and special-use permit application for the developer of a potential three-story apartment building at 1206 Carlton Ave.

After voting in March to not recommend approval, the property owner’s agent offered to keep the building under 35 feet and make one of the six two-bedroom apartments in the building affordable to households making 80 percent of the area median income if the zoning change and permit request were approved.

The affordable housing unit in the development, per the developer’s proffer, would remain affordable for 10 years. (The AMI for a four-person household is $76,600, and $53,600 for a single-person household.)
