Charlottesville City Schools has renamed two of its elementary schools — but not all board members are happy with the decision.

After a combative discussion between board members at last night’s meeting, they voted 5 to 2 to change the name Venable to Trailblazers and 6 to1 to change the name Clark to Friendship. The majority of the conflict was between Jennifer McKeever and her fellow board members. McKeever was unhappy with all the names presented, calling the Trailblazers “dumb” and criticizing the process the school district took to reevaluate the names.

After bitter disagreement, Venable and Clark elementary schools will now be Trailblazers and Summit

And, just a reminder, Christmas tree pickup is next week! The city of Charlottesville is asking everyone to have their trees at the curb by 7 a.m. Monday morning. Albemarle County has drop-off sites in several locations. Once they’re picked up, the trees wild be turned into mulch, then given away to anyone who wants it! Here’s more information from the city of Charlottesville.

We hope you’ve had a great start to your New Year. See you next week!
