Jack Brown

After training as a historian (UVA PhD, 1992), Jack Brown taught history, ethics, and writing in the Engineering School at UVA until retiring in 2015. A native of Philadelphia, he is married to Wendy Brown. They have two adult children, both graduates of Charlottesville High School.

His work with local non-profits includes the Rivanna Rowing Club (vice president) and the Rivanna Conservation Society (board chair in 2007-2010). He has worked with the Building Goodness Foundation and built houses with the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity. Currently he serves on the Albemarle County Easement Authority, a leading holder of conservation easements in the county. He also volunteers with One Virginia 2021 in its push for non-partisan redistricting for Virginia.
