The
Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT)
is reporting that the pavement has “deflected” in the location of two previous sinkholes on Route 29 near the Hollymead Town Center. Darin Simpson, Assistant Administrator for VDOT’s Charlottesville residency, says crews are being mobilized this morning to assess the situation and to excavate the site. WINA is reporting that a southbound travel lane on Route 29 has been closed to traffic.
Last month,
Charlottesville Tomorrow published an in-depth interview
with Darin Simpson which detailed the cause of the past sinkholes and VDOT’s plans to make a permanent repair.
