CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia. October 20, 2015 — In cooperation with the Charlottesville Newsplex, The Charlottesville Corps of The Salvation Army is pleased to announce its third Annual Charlottesville Salvation Army Telethon presented by Better Living, Inc. will air on Tuesday night, October 20, 2015 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm.
With the new commanders, Captains James and Susan Shiels, at the helm of the Charlottesville Salvation Army, providing services to the homeless and those with the greatest need is even more prominent. With a wealth of knowledge and a lifetime of public service, the Captains are equipped to lead this Corps in the 21st century. The Charlottesville Salvation Army receives no government or centralized local support, yet, it continues to help those in need every day and they need the Charlottesville community’s help in doing so. They are recruiting a battalion of community members and local businesses to raise the dollars essential to run its fundamental human needs programs. The funds raised through the Telethon will replace more than $160,000 in lost funding.
The goal has been to ensure that Charlottesville’s most vulnerable populations receive the support they need in their darkest hours. In 2014, the Charlottesville Salvation Army provided over 41,400 meals to guests at the Ridge Street facility. The Salvation Army Telethon will ensure that people in dire need are able to find shelter and given hot meals. Money raised stays here in Charlottesville and directly benefits this community. The Charlottesville Salvation Army serves this community every day and fulfills a year-round need no one else in this community provides—public or private.
The Telethon is made possible by a joint operation from the team at CBS19, the Charlottesville Newsplex, WCHV and Monticello Media’s Charlottesville-owned radio group. Together, they produce and air the two-hour special live from the Charlottesville Corps on Ridge Street. In 2015, the Telethon will air on CBS19 television and WCHV 107.5 radio on Tuesday, October 20, from 6pm – 8pm, unbroken by commercials. The evening’s hosts will include Dan Schutte, Rachel Ryan and Joe Thomas.
