Upcoming changes at Charlottesville Tomorrow

Thank you for being a loyal supporter and subscriber to Charlottesville Tomorrow. I am excited to share my news.

Over the past dozen years, it has been my honor to serve as Charlottesville Tomorrow’s first executive director. I am fortunate to be able to work with a dedicated, professional staff and a board of directors, who represent the best in nonprofit and community leadership.

I believe passionately in the importance of engaging people in local government, in the availability of factual, in-depth information about key quality of life issues, and in working together to create a better future for our community.

I am proud of the work we have done at Charlottesville Tomorrow to improve the availability of news and to create a unique partnership with The Daily Progress. Over the past nine years, our collaboration has been a win-win for our award-winning newsrooms as well as for our citizens who depend on timely news they can trust.

As for me, I have accepted the position of Director of Communications for the City of Charlottesville and will begin my new work February 20, 2018. I am excited about the opportunity to contribute directly to the work of the city I love at a time when I know Charlottesville Tomorrow is well positioned for its next chapter.

Our Board of Directors has formed a search committee to hire Charlottesville Tomorrow’s next Executive Director. The future for Charlottesville Tomorrow and our community is bright. And you, our readers and supporters are a big part of that future.

Our team will keep you informed about our transition and will continue to seek your input about the topics of the day and our approach to solutions journalism.

During the next month, I will step down from work in our newsroom, and day-to-day editorial decisions will be made by our Senior Reporter, Sean Tubbs and our Education and Business Reporter, Josh Mandell. Your news is in good hands!

My focus will be working with the Board of Directors as they kick off a search process for Charlottesville Tomorrow’s next leader.

Most of all, I am grateful for our readers’ loyal support and commitment to the mission and work of Charlottesville Tomorrow. Your partnership makes all this possible.

With your continued support, Charlottesville Tomorrow is well positioned to tackle the tough issues and bring you the in-depth news you need.

With my profound thanks and appreciation,

Brian Wheeler
