Where Are They Now? Former Charlottesville Tomorrow News Intern Ali Sullivan
We reached out to some of our former reporters to find out where life has taken them since leaving Charlottesville Tomorrow. This week we hear from Ali Sullivan.
Where has life taken you since leaving Charlottesville Tomorrow?
I’m a breaking news reporter covering a little bit of everything for The Virginian-Pilot and Daily Press in Hampton Roads.
How did working at Charlottesville Tomorrow help you in your career?
My internship at Charlottesville Tomorrow in 2019 was my first professional media experience. The newsroom was kind enough to have me back for spring 2021 after I graduated college. Although an intern, I felt like a real part of the newsroom and was given the tools to grow as a reporter. The experiences also gave me perspective on the importance of local news.
What was your favorite part of working at Charlottesville Tomorrow?
I enjoyed the opportunity to dig into different topics and learn from talented reporters who know so much about the community.
What is your outlook for the future of local journalism?
I’m encouraged by community-minded nonprofits like Charlottesville Tomorrow, and I hope they proliferate. I’m not sure what the solution is for shrinking local newspapers. I wish I knew it!
