On this session of WTJU’s Soundboard, Billy, Elliott, and Giles talk with host Lewis Reining about the final stages of Albemarle County’s deliberations about whether to rename Paul H. Cale Elementary School. Cale was superintendent of the county school division during integration and has been accused of saying that integration was not possible. An advisory committee is weighing the division’s legacy of integration and has scheduled meetings to take input from the public and Cale’s family.

Giles Morris, who was executive director of Charlottesville Tomorrow from 2018 to 2023, has spent the past two decades as a journalist, community organizer and executive leader, helping communities and organizations find their voices and chronicling the ways larger forces impact the lives of people.

Elliott Robinson has spent nearly 15 years in journalism and joined Charlottesville Tomorrow as its news editor in August 2018 through 2021. He is a graduate of Christopher Newport University.

Billy Jean Louis joined Charlottesville Tomorrow as its education reporter in April 2019 and covered the community into 2022. He is a graduate of the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications. Born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Jean Louis speaks English, Haitian Creole and French.
