For Immediate Release:  As of January 1, 2016 the Rivanna Conservation Alliance (RCA) will be established through a merger between the Rivanna Conservation Society and StreamWatch. These two organizations have, for years, been providing central Virginia with a set of tools, services and programs designed to involve the public in the care and protection of the Rivanna River and its feeder streams. By joining forces they will provide our community with a comprehensive approach to keeping our rivers and stream clean and healthy.

In addition to the new name, the organization has a new mission – Protection of the Rivanna River and its tributaries through community involvement, conservation, education, recreation, restoration, water-quality monitoring and reporting and a new watershed vision – A healthy, thriving community that values its rivers and streams.

And, while staying in the same building on the downtown mall, the two organizations have moved into a single office location – here are the details.

Physical Address: 108 5th St. SE Suites 209-211 – Charlottesville, VA 22902, and the Mailing Address:  Post Office Box 1503, Charlottesville, VA 22902.

“This merger has been accomplished by a dedicated and diligent group of board and staff members who have worked tirelessly to assure a smooth and timely transition,” said Robbi Savage, RCA’s Executive Director. Amplifying on this point, Mike Foreman, Board Chair of the new group said, “We are delighted that the integration of the two boards and members of our two staffs has been seamless and our new Science Advisory Committee is already up and running,”

In addition, RCA received grant funding from the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation, Sea Change – Lodestar and an anonymous donor to help assure a successful merger.   We also extend our sincere appreciation to our members, supporters, community leaders and contractors – specifically Bald Guy Studio (website), Center for Nonprofit Excellence (merger and strategic planning) Garris/Monfalcone & Company CPA (fiscal operations), Skeen Law Offices (legal counsel), and Water Words That Work (mission, logo, branding and general guidance re the merger) for helping us achieve our merger goal in order to provide the community with an efficient and effective organization that is truly the “Voice of the Rivanna.”
