What: Annual “Bake ‘N Bike” Valentine’s Day Scone Sale
When: Valentine’s Day (Tuesday – February 14, 2017)
Cost: A $20 donation to benefit Community Bikes
Charlottesville, VA – Charlottesville residents will have the chance to share the love this Valentine’s Day thanks to the annual “Bake ‘N Bike” scone extravaganza to benefit Charlottesville Community Bikes. Now in its 14th year, the “Bake ‘N Bike” scone sale is a local Valentine’s Day tradition. During this unique event, costumed bicycling volunteers deliver freshly baked heart-shaped, chocolate chip scones with a valentine to people all over Charlottesville.
All proceeds go to Charlottesville Community Bikes, a non-profit program to promote environmentally-sound transportation, recycle bicycles, and make cycling accessible.
Scones will be baked by volunteers in the commercial kitchen of The Haven, a day shelter and community space in downtown Charlottesville. The headquarters for “Bake ‘N Bike” volunteers on Valentine’s Day will be at The Bridge Progressive Arts Initiative, a creative hub for art and design located on Monticello Road.
Each order consists of six heart-shaped, chocolate chip scones along with a letterpressed card (printed on an antique press at the Virginia Arts of the Book Center). You can even add a personalized, handwritten message to your card.
If the recipient is located in the City of Charlottesville or on University of Virginia Central Grounds, you have the option of choosing free delivery which will be made by a festively costumed bicyclist (picture a wacky version of Cupid on a bike!). Pick-up orders can be ready at The Bridge (209 Monticello Rd, Charlottesville, VA 22902) upon request.
