On September 14, 2011, the Senior Statesmen of Virginia held a candidates forum for the five people seeking seats on the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors.
Cynthia Neff
(D) is challenging incumbent
Kenneth C. Boyd
(R) in the Rivanna District.
Christopher J. Dumler
(D) and
James C. Norwood
(R) are seeking to represent the Scottsville District.
Ann H. Mallek
(D) is running opposed for a second term in the White Hall District.
The event was held at the Senior Center and was moderated by Bill Davis, Secretary of the Senior Statesmen.

QUESTIONS:
Question 1: In light of the failing economy, mounting national debt, and loss of jobs on a national scale, what is your top priority for Albemarle County for the next 4 years?
Question 2: (for Cynthia Neff) Do you find any objectionable goals listed in the 1998 Sustainability Accords of the Thomas Jefferson Planning District commission?
Question 3: (for Kenneth Boyd) For the protection of our citizens, our water supply, and especially our school children, will you DEMAND that a new complete environmental impact study be completed before construction is done on the Western Bypass?
Question 4: What would you do to lower the drop-out rate in the Albemarle County High Schools?
Question 5: (for Kenneth Boyd) Kenneth Boyd, on June 8, 2011, at 1:45 pm, why did you insist on adding the Bypass to the Board agenda? Who asked you to do this? Why didn’t you consult with Rivanna district voters before introducing the bypass?
Question 6: What is your view of the western bypass? Why do the Board of Supervisors promote growth and jobs and real estate development without supplying roads and transportation infrastructure first? What about the three party agreement between the city, the county, and UVA to not support the bypass?
Question 7: The governor is considering proposing to the general assembly that Boards of Supervisors be allowed to meet electronically. Are you in favor of this idea? If not, why not?
Question 8: Many county residents are land-rich, cash-poor, or on fixed incomes. As county supervisor, would you vote 1. to raise taxes in order to fund new projects? Or 2. to adjust county spending to reflect economic realities in our county?
Question 9: What does transparency in government mean, and how would you uphold this idea?
Question 10: What would you do to encourage small manufacturing in Albemarle County?
