C-VILLE Weekly and Charlottesville Tomorrow have formed a partnership to share news content.
Under the agreement, news articles written by Charlottesville Tomorrow related to public education will appear in the online and print editions of C-VILLE Weekly beginning in June.
Charlottesville Tomorrow is a non-profit organization founded in 2005 to cover land-use, transportation and community design issues in Albemarle County and Charlottesville.
Charlottesville Tomorrow is expanding its staff and mission with the addition of a dedicated education reporter.
“It’s a challenging time in the news business, and I don’t think any of us ever feels like we’re covering everything we should be with the depth and attention to detail we’d like,” said C-VILLE Weekly Editor-in-Chief Giles Morris. “This partnership will add quality to our paper in a beat that’s close to the hearts and pocketbooks of practically all of our readers. I’m excited about it.”
Charlottesville Tomorrow launched a similar partnership in 2009 with The Daily Progress which will continue.
“We see this as the next logical step for our efforts to engage the community on quality of life issues,” said Charlottesville Tomorrow’s executive director Brian Wheeler. “Education is a big part of local government, parents and employers want more information about our public schools and we have school board elections that deserve more attention.”
As part of the partnership, the organizations will co-produce a non-partisan local election voter guide related to the November 2013 elections for school board in Charlottesville and Albemarle.
“The partnership is an exciting development that ensures our trusted reporting gets even greater exposure,” added Wheeler. “We already work with C-VILLE Weekly’s news team on a radio show on WTJU 91.1 FM. Covering local schools will give us a chance to collaborate even more closely to better inform the community.”
Charlottesville Tomorrow is funded entirely by individual donations, grants, and corporate underwriting. The agreement does not include any payment for content or promotional material.
