Charlottesville, VA—Anne-Marie Slaughter, President and CEO of the national think tank and civic enterprise New America, former Dean of Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, former White House and State Department advisor, and bestselling author of Unfinished Business: Women, Men, Work, Family (2015), will deliver a keynote address at the sixth annual Tom Tom Founders Festival. Slaughter will be joined by a host of other prominent speakers, including cofounder of New Belgium Brewing Company Kim Jordan; founding partner at 500 Startups Dave McClure; and cofounder and CEO of CODE2040 Laura Weidman Powers. They are among the more than two hundred speakers who will address the Festival.
“We are thrilled to host Anne-Marie Slaughter at the 2017 Tom Tom Founders Festival,” said Festival Founder and Director Paul Beyer. “Dr. Slaughter not only offers fascinating insight into critical issues of thoughtful, successful policy and government, but also serves as an inspiring exemplar of an unwavering commitment to public service. Her career reflects Tom Tom’s core values and aspirations, and her keynote address will no doubt serve as a rousing launch to this year’s terrific innovation- and empowerment-oriented agenda.”
Slaughter will appear at two high-profile Festival events: the popular Founders Summit, a one-of-a-kind assemblage of America’s leading innovators and entrepreneurs, and the inaugural Hometown Summit, America’s biggest conference for small cities. Slaughter’s Founders Summit speech will address issues related to her remarkable journey from growing up in Charlottesville, to becoming the first female Dean of Princeton’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, a leading advisor to the State Department and White House, and author of the most-read article in the history of The Atlantic Monthly, “Why Women Still Can’t Have It All.” During the Hometown Summit, Slaughter will address renewing American politics, prosperity, and purpose in the digital age, as part of a panel discussion with mayors and other public sector leaders.
“Having had an incredibly distinguished career and breaking a number of glass ceilings as the “first woman” in male-dominated roles, Dr. Slaughter started a sweeping conversation in America on gender equality in the workforce and the importance of work-life balance,” said Celia Castleman, Tom Tom Founders Festival Associate Director. “It is a tremendous honor to host her at this year’s Festival. Her voice as a trailblazer promises to provide insight and inspiration to our audience.”
Registration is now open for the Founders Summit and Hometown Summit, which will be held April 13-15 at Charlottesville’s Paramount Theater and Jefferson School African American Heritage Center, respectively. A Founders Summit rate of $79 per person and $29 for students is available until Wednesday, March 1st, 2017. Hometown Summit three-day badges begin at $250.
