The local Blue Ridge Health District is now accepting walk-ins at its COVID-19 Vaccination Center during set hours five days a week.

  • On Mondays, walk-in hours are 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. During that time, the clinic will cater to Latino residents and will have Spanish speakers on site. There will be 200 doses available each Monday.
  • Tuesdays through Thursdays, the clinic will accept walk-ins between 10 and 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. There will be 100 doses set aside each day.
  • On Fridays, it will take walk-ins between 10 and 11:30 a.m. and also 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. There will be 300 doses available.

The district plans to adjust the number of vaccine doses it will set aside based on how many walk-ins arrive, said Jason Elliott, a BRHD spokesman.

The district plans to have Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines available for people to choose from.

Though the district is taking walk-ins, residents can still schedule an appointment through the state’s online Vaccine Administration Management System, or VAMS. The district is currently in Phase 2 of its COVID-19 vaccination effort, which means everyone ages 16 and up are eligible. Click here to schedule an appointment.

As of Monday, just over 45% of Virginians had received at least one dose of vaccine, and 32% were fully vaccinated. In Charlottesville, that percentage is higher with nearly 54% receiving a single dose and 37% fully vaccinated. Albemarle County’s rates are higher still. More than 58% of the county has received their first dose and 41% are fully vaccinated.

Meanwhile, the number of new cases in the Blue Ridge Health District has dropped to a seven-day average of 10 from around 35 in mid-April. That’s down from the district’s all time high of 152 in mid-February.
