The Charlottesville High School Marching Knights proudly announce Cavalcade, their annual high school marching band competition. The event will take place Saturday, October 21st at the Charlottesville High School stadium. Gates open at 1:30, performances begin at 3:20 pm. The competition will draw 15 bands from high schools across Virginia for an afternoon of music and marching performances. A panel of judges will score the bands in each of 5 classes in music, marching, general effect, color guard, percussion and drum major. Awards will be given to the top finishers in each division.

The Cavalcade Competition has been a tradition in the Charlottesville music community for 30 years, starting under the direction of long-time band director and community member Vincent Tornello. The competition is highly regarded by Virginia bands not only for its top-notch musical and marching performances, but also for its beautiful setting in Charlottesville and the warm hospitality provided by the CHS Band community.

Tickets for the event will be sold at the gate. Prices are $5 for students and $8 for adults (children under the age of 5 are free.) Admission includes a printed program. Food and refreshments will be available at the stadium concession booth and CHS Band merchandise will be available for purchase. All proceeds from the Cavalcade are used to support student musicians and the Charlottesville High School Band as they prepare for the honor of traveling to London this December to march in the London New Year’s Day Parade.
