Laura Mulligan Thomas conducting the CHS orchestra on the Downtown Mall

The Charlottesville High School orchestra will be heading to France.

Thanks to an anonymous $10,000 donation made through the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation, the 52-member string ensemble raised just over $190,000.

During their travels, the group will perform at Chartres Cathedral in Charlottesville’s sister city Besançon, and at the American Cathedral in Paris.

This will be the orchestra’s fourth European tour.

On Thursday, June 19 at 7:30 p.m., the ensemble will perform a bon voyage concert at the Martin Luther King Performing Arts Center at Charlottesville High School.

The show is free and open to the public.
