CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA — On Friday, June 10, 2016, from 9:30am to 11:00am, at CitySpace, seven Charlottesville residents will graduate from the GO Driver Program.
GO Driver is a seven week training program that prepares City residents for a career as a Relief Bus Driver with Charlottesville Area Transit (CAT) and Charlottesville City Schools Pupil Transportation. The program, entirely free for eligible participants, is a partnership among the City’s Office of Economic Development, CAT, and Piedmont Virginia Community College to offer training that will equip residents with a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), as well as certificates in customer service, career readiness, and workplace essential skills.
All seven GO Driver graduates have been offered employment with Charlottesville Area Transit and will begin employment on Monday, June 13th.
GO Driver was established to meet the City’s goal of ensuring that there are appropriate training programs in place for a wide range of skill sets and backgrounds and to help connect residents to training within targeted industries. This is the fourth group of students to graduate from GO Driver over the past year and a half. To date, 34 City residents have graduated from the program and received employment.
