CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – On Friday, August 21st at 6:15pm, Computers4Kids (C4K) and the City of Charlottesville’s Office of Economic Development (OED) will host an Entrepreneurship Pitch Night, the culminating event during C4K’s Summer Showcase. This event will highlight the work of the youth who attended the Entrepreneurship Summer Camp earlier this month. During the camp, the students learned about running a business, developed business ideas, and worked to create their business “pitch.”

As part of the Pitch Night, students will present their product ideas to judges from the community. Judges include Deb McMahon, CEO of Scitent; Joe Jennings, Founder and CEO of BeHealth Solutions; Nareen Scott, Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant and Recruiter; and Kathy Galvin, owner of Galvin Architects and City Council Member. Pitches will be interactive in format and students will compete for start-up funds for their new businesses.

Community members are invited to attend the event at Studio Ix, which will feature C4K’s Summer Showcase, starting at 5:00pm, at the C4K Clubhouse and Mentoring Studio. The C4K open house will showcase the work of youth who attended all of C4K’s 2015 summer camps. C4K campers are promising low income middle and high school youth, and C4K camps focus on STEAM skill building (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) through hands-on, collaborative activities.

The Office of Economic Development’s mission is to be the catalyst for public and private initiatives that create employment opportunities and a vibrant and sustainable economy. The OED has partnered with C4K to promote entrepreneurship for young City residents.

Computers4Kids is a member of Intel’s Computer Clubhouse Network, whose mission is to provide a creative and safe out-of-school learning environment where young people from underserved communities work with adult mentors to explore their own ideas, develop new skills, and build confidence in themselves through the use of technology. Services provided by C4K are free to youth.

C4K is located at 945 Second St. SE Charlottesville, Virginia 22902 in the Frank Ix Building.
