Last Tuesday, Charlottesville Tomorrow celebrated GivingNewsDay, an annual day of giving designed specifically for local journalism nonprofits like us. In tandem with GivingNewsDay, our participation in NewsMatch also began. With NewsMatch, donations to Charlottesville Tomorrow will be doubled during the month of December, thanks to support from the Knight Foundation, the Institute for Nonprofit News, The Miami Foundation, and other national partners.
“We are once again happy this year to be selected as a NewsMatch recipient,” wrote Charlottesville Tomorrow’s Development Director Michaux Hood. “The opportunity to jump-start our end-of-year fund drive with matching dollars proved to be a great boost.”
Forty-four donors responded to Charlottesville Tomorrow’s GivingNewsDay request, up from last year’s total of 28. With additional donations received over the past week, Charlottesville Tomorrow fund drive goal of 200 December donors has now reached the 30% mark.
“Reaching our fund drive goal will help us achieve our goals for 2021, most notably increasing both our staff size and our ability to work with some of the excellent freelance journalists in the area,” added News Editor Elliott Robinson.
Donations made between December 1 and December 31 are eligible for matching NewsMatch funds. Donations to Charlottesville Tomorrow can be made here.
