The Jefferson-Madison Regional Library invites all readers to participate in a month-long community read event, Same Page, which will be held during March 2018. JMRL is inviting the community to read and discuss a book written by an author appearing at the Virginia Festival of the Book. The inaugural selection for Same Page will be “What We Talk About When We Talk About Anne Frank” by Nathan Englander.
Same Page will kick off with a reception and exhibit of Congregation Beth Israel’s collection of Judaica, as well as lithographs on loan from the synagogue, at Central Library on Thursday, March 1 at 5-6:30 p.m. Attendees will be given the opportunity to win tickets to the Festival of the Book literary luncheon with Nathan Englander on March 22.
The public is also invited to meet Nathan Englander at the Northside Library on March 22 at 6 p.m., where he will talk about this year’s Same Page book.
“What We Talk About When We Talk About Anne Frank” is a collection of eight powerful stories that grapple with the ways in which faith, family, and community can shape an individual. It was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 2013 and a winner of the Frank O’Connor International Short Story Award in 2012.
All JMRL branches will be hosting free events and discussions about the book and its themes, such as trust, Jewish identity, and neighborliness. More information on the 2018 Same Page can be found at www.jmrl.org/samepage.
