Girls of Summer invites girls of all ages to discover the fun of reading at a program featuring speakers, activities, and books curated just for them.

Charlottesville, VA | May 3, 2017– The Junior League of Charlottesville will host Girls of Summer, a hands-on literacy initiative at the Charlottesville Central Library on Saturday May 13, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. This annual event aims to prevent “summer slide” by partnering with local authors to present a celebration of books through a variety of activities, giveaways, food, and music!  Studies show that students who do not read over the summer fall behind their peers. The Girls of Summer booklist shares our favorite summer books at all reading levels. Admission is free for both kids and their parents.

During the event, attendees will be able to explore a variety of stations to celebrate the start of summer with children’s book authors Hannah Barnaby, author of “Wonder Show“ and Joseph Hicks, author of  “Sophie & Paige Soccer Twins“.  The complete curated list available at the event includes over 15 books that feature picture books to young adult titles.

Copies from the curated booklist will be on-site to allow you to purchase for your own collection. Barnaby and Hicks will also be available for signings.
