Following Ed Gillaspie’s retirement from Charlottesville City Schools later this month, Kim Powell will assume the position of Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations at Charlottesville City Schools.
“We’ve been blessed with Ed’s leadership in various finance and administrative roles over the course of twenty years,” commented Superintendent Rosa Atkins. “And we are fortunate to have someone as skilled and experienced as Kim to take over these responsibilities. We’re in good hands.”
In his last years at Charlottesville City Schools, Ed Gillaspie held the role of Assistant Superintendent for Administration. Gillaspie began at Charlottesville City Schools in 1997, and he served most of those years as Director of Finance. Following his retirement from the schools, he will begin the brand-new position of Director of Administration at the Virginia Institute of Autism.
Kim Powell, currently the Director of Finance for Charlottesville City Schools, will become Charlottesville’s Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations. She holds a BA and MBA from James Madison University. She served for a decade as Director of Business and Facilities for Greene County Public Schools, and she also offers ten years of management and consulting experience with GE and with Andersen Consulting.
Powell will be succeeded as Director of Finance by Renee Hoover, the school division’s current Coordinator of Accounting and Payroll Services. Hoover is a CPA with an MBA from Averitt University and a BA from Bridgewater College.
