This morning’s edition of the monthly
Crozet Gazette
includes the news that a third candidate has launched a campaign for the White Hall seat on the
Albemarle County Board of Supervisors
.
Thomas Loach
, a resident of Crozet since 1989, submitted a letter to the editor outlining his experience and asking area residents, particularly those in the designated growth area around Crozet, to sign petitions to put him on the ballot for the November 2007 general election as an independent candidate.
In the letter, Loach says, “Crozet has benefited from the influx of many fine new neighbors, but too much of even a good thing will destroy the very reason we moved here. As a member of the board I will strive to keep Crozet as close to the population intended in our Crozet Master Plan as possible. I will do my utmost to keep Crozet a small town in a rural Albemarle County.”
Mr. Loach is challenging incumbent
David Wyant (R)
who was elected in 2003 to a four-year term and is seeking re-election to the Board of Supervisors. In March, Earlysville Democrat
Ann Mallek launched her campaign
for the White Hall seat. Loach, who is sixty years old, works part time for the University of Virginia as a Systems Analyst. He has professional training as a Nurse and a Physician Assistant. In the community, Mr. Loach is a member of the Board of Directors of
Advocates for a Sustainable Albemarle Population
(ASAP). He is a past President of the Crozet Community Association and he was a member of the Development Areas Initiatives Study Committee (DISC) that developed the County’s Neighborhood Model.
Explaining the approach of launching his campaign by publishing a letter, Loach said, “I believe the way to run for office is to build support from the community through a grass roots movement.”
Elections are being held this November for three seats on the Board and voters in the County’s
Rivanna
and
Scottsville
districts also have incumbents in contested elections. The White Hall race is shaping up to be the only three-way contest. See
