Joanne Joyce Gonzalez volunteers at Twice Is Nice Upscale Resale Boutique - Shop-Donate-Volunteer.

Twice is Nice, the resale boutique located in Preston Plaza in Charlottesville, is pledging $125,000 to Mountainside Senior Living in Crozet, Virginia. The pledge will go toward a $400,000 renovation of Mountainside Senior Living’s third floor, which will be transformed into a much needed memory care community to serve those with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.

“For over two decades, our upscale boutique in Preston Plaza has assisted our community’s aging population, and more specifically, years of financial support to Mountainside Senior Living, JABA’s non-profit assisted living community in Crozet,” says Twice Is Nice Board President Gordon Walker. “With the cost of housing for seniors skyrocketing, especially for those who need specialized care, Mountainside provides the most affordable assisted living in our area. But, as JABA recognized, that wasn’t enough. The growing need for dementia care in our community needs to be addressed. And we are happy to be able to help.”

Twice is Nice is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, selling quality men’s and women’s clothing, shoes and accessories, housewares, home furnishings and furniture that has been generously donated by members in the community. It is the mission of Twice is Nice to use revenue generated from sales to assist our aging population in need of additional resources [medical equipment, furniture and other necessary support], and to provide affordable housing with essential care and services to residents at Mountainside Senior Living and other low income seniors in Virginia.

“A local market study of the need for affordable dementia care in the Charlottesville area is what motivated us to create personalized memory care ,” says Marta Keane, CEO of JABA. “The study estimated that there are 400 local residents in need of specialized memory care. To respond appropriately, JABA will open the Blue Ridge Neighborhood at Mountainside, thus allowing us to transition current, and future, residents to memory care when they need it, as well as accept new residents who require this level of care right away.”

The Blue Ridge Neighborhood is a separate and secure environment, providing peace of mind for family members. Residents will enjoy a large common area, where they can participate in activities that are personalized to their interests and needs, join in conversation, or take advantage of the Quiet Room. Certified dementia care staff will assure the residents are receiving the best care possible.

“It’s amazing to us that a resale boutique in Charlottesville has been able to provide so much support for Mountainside for so many years,” adds Keane, “and this newest pledge for our Blue Ridge Neighborhood is a shining example of charity and commitment. Thanks to everyone who shops at Twice is Nice, donates goods, or volunteers their time there, including the wonderful volunteers who serve on the board of directors. You’re the ones who made this happen and we are so grateful.“

The 20-bed Blue Ridge Neighborhood is expected to open in February 2018.
