John Lowry

Albemarle County Economic Development Authority
, has filed as a candidate for election to the Samuel Miller seat on the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors. Incumbent Supervisor,
Sally Thomas
(I-Samuel Miller), has not yet announced if she is running for re-election.
Lowry moved to the area in 1970 after getting his BA from the College of William & Mary in 1969. Currently retired, Lowry was most recently employed as an Investment Counselor with Old Dominion Capital Management during 2007-08. Prior to that he worked for Wachovia Securities and its predecessors from 1976-2007.

electronically to the Virginia State Board of Elections. Interviewed today by

, Lowry said his campaign was still in the exploratory phase. A date for an official campaign launch has not been set.
If he decides to run, Lowry said he has not determined whether he would do so as an Independent or with a party affiliation. He has collected 115 unofficial petition signatures of the 125 needed as an Independent candidate. “I am meeting with stakeholders across the political spectrum,” said Lowry. According to his campaign website, Lowry intends to focus on quality of life, education, and transportation matters. “What we need is responsible leadership to ensure the best management of these complex matters.”
The general election takes place in November and local political parties will officially nominate their candidates between May 8, 2009 and June 9, 2009. Independent candidates have until June 9th to submit the necessary petition signatures to get on the ballot. The Jack Jouett and Rio District seats will also be on the November ballot.
