CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA – As the City of Charlottesville begins the fiscal year 2017/2018 budgeting process, we are seeking citizen input to create a budget that best addresses the needs of the community we serve.

Balancing Act is a tool that allows citizens to put together the budget that best aligns with their priorities.  Users can go online and tinker with the adopted fiscal year 2016/2017 budget to show how they would meet their goals and keep the budget balanced.  For every change in spending or revenue, there must be an offsetting change somewhere else.  The budget must balance.

After creating their ideal budget, the user hits “submit” and City Staff and City Council will be able to review the changes and ideas.  A report will be provided to City Council and the public in mid-January summarizing the budget priorities and input from the community.

To try it out, simply visit: www.charlottesville.org/budget and click “Balancing Act.”
This tool replaces the paper budget survey mailed in the past.  For those citizens who may not have internet access or who prefer the paper survey, one may be requested by contacting the City Manager’s Office: 434-970-3333.
