Public Education Foundation of Charlottesville-Albemarle Appoints New Executive Director
Charlottesville, VA, December 15, 2015 – The Public Education Foundation of Charlottesville-Albemarle is pleased to announce the appointment of Sharon Deal as its Executive Director. PEF is a local non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of teaching and learning in the Charlottesville and Albemarle public schools.
“I am delighted to welcome Sharon as our new Executive Director and enthusiastic about how her leadership will help us form educational, business and philanthropic partnerships to support all students and teachers in our public schools,” said PEF’s Board President, J. Alden English. “Continued decreases in state funding present numerous challenges to our schools, and we believe Sharon’s expertise can help us meet these pressing needs.”
Ms. Deal brings over thirty years of experience in teaching, educational leadership and higher education research to the Foundation. Prior to joining PEF, Ms. Deal was a Research Scientist at the University of Virginia’s Center for Advanced Study of Teaching and Learning (CASTL), implementing research projects in Albemarle, Orange, Green, and Roanoke counties, and Hampton City Schools. Most recently, she led a collaborative professional development mentoring program between CASTL and Baltimore City Schools.
“It is a real privilege to have the opportunity through PEF to serve the Charlottesville-Albemarle public schools because their success creates more economic and social vitality for our entire community,” said Ms. Deal. “By cultivating our local resources, I am confident that collectively we can find solutions to support both school systems’ mission of providing meaningful and dynamic educational experiences for all students.”
Ms. Deal received her Master of Arts in English and Creative Writing from Brown University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
