We have been receiving inquiries about a demonstration that occurred Tuesday evening involving a giant inflatable cartoon animal on the sidewalk adjacent to County Office Building-McIntire.

The County of Albemarle did not authorize nor participate in this event, and electricity from the County Office Building-McIntire was not used to inflate the prop.

Staff, as well as Albemarle County police officers, informed organizers that they were in violation of the grounds and parking policies for equipment on County property and illegal parking.

As a reminder, we are still under a local state of emergency stemming from the events of August 10-12, therefore, the parking regulations that were put into place during that time remain in effect until the local emergency has been lifted at a future board meeting.

The parking regulations at County Office Building-McIntire are as follows:

• On weekdays, visitor parking is for official County business only until 10:00 p.m., or when the building closes. The lot will reopen at 6:00 a.m.

• On weekends, the parking lots will close to the public on Fridays at 10:00 p.m. and reopen on Mondays at 6:00 a.m.

The parking lot entrances at County Office Building-5th Street will also be restricted in accordance with the above guidelines, but entrances will not be cordoned off to accommodate 24-hour access to the County Police Department.

We appreciate your concern in this matter and hope that this has cleared any confusion surrounding the incident. We also thank you for your continued understanding regarding the current parking regulations at the County Office Buildings.
