What is the most challenging aspect of your job?
The most challenging aspect of teaching today is to maintain an atmosphere of active learning as class sizes continue to grow.
What is the most common misconception about your job?
People who have never taught tend to think the job is not that hard. Having come to education later in life (after two previous careers) I’d have to argue strongly the other way.
Where do you see the teaching field in five years?
With advances in technology, the human component will become even more important for young human beings who lack that and need it.
What outside experience best prepared you to become a teacher?
My best preparation for teaching teenagers is having raised two daughters through their teenage years.
