Both Charlottesville and Albemarle County are considering staff pay raises as part of their FY 2017 budget deliberations. The proposals for 2 percent cost of living adjustments are for both teachers and other local government employees.  In Albemarle, the raises are intended to partially offset rising health insurance costs paid by employees. In Charlottesville, school board chair Amy Laufer praised efforts to improve teacher pay.  “This budget reflects our commitment to the compensation of our teachers,” said Laufer at last week’s school board meeting.

Charlottesville City Manager Maurice Jones presents his budget to City Council March 7.

We’d like to know your opinion? Do you support cost of living adjustments for local government to help retain staff and stay competitive in the market?
