In his monthly appearance before the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors, VDOT’s Jim Utterback announced today that Norfolk Southern was going to replace the single-lane bridge over the railroad tracks on Proffit Road requiring the road’s closure for 30-60 days during summer 2006.

The new bridge will remain a single lane and be of a similar structure and character preserving its nineteenth-century roots. The Proffit Historic District has an interesting website here.
