Visitors to Virginia now have one more way to plan and enjoy their dining experiences with a little help from one of our most historic food cultures – Virginia barbecue! With cooking methods dating back to the earliest settlers, Virginia’s barbecue restaurants still prepare smoked meats using tried and true open fire cooking methods that have changed little for hundreds of years. And while many of Virginia’s historic landmarks such as Monticello, Jamestown and Montpelier demonstrate cooking styles of the past, the Virginia BBQ Trail seeks to connect visitors to present day opportunities to eat, share and enjoy this delicious part of our history.
The Virginia BBQ Trail recently completed development and distribution of a Central Virginia Region BBQ Trail promotional brochure showcasing 14 of our participating barbecue restaurants across Central Virginia. Visitors will find the brochure at area visitor centers and be able to use it in planning their itinerary or heading straight to one of the listed restaurants. In addition to identifying the restaurant name, location and phone number, a convenient ‘QR code’ can be scanned with a smartphone camera leading to mapping and driving directions to any one of the selected venues.
The following ‘BBQ joints’ are showcased:
– BBQ Exchange, Gordonsville
– Smoked Kitchen and Tap, Crozet
– Uncle Elder’s Family Restaurant, Culpeper
– Blue Ridge Pig, Nellysford
– Red Hub Food Co., Charlottesville
