Before a crowd of teachers and students, Anne Straume, a third grade teacher at Meriwether Lewis Elementary School, was surprised Thursday with the Virginia Lottery Super Teacher Award, which comes with a $2,000 cash prize from the Virginia Lottery, and an additional $2,000 prize from the Supply Room Companies that Straume can use to purchase new supplies for her classroom. Parent Kristin Steed, who nominated Straume, praised the third grade teacher for her “positive and dynamic classroom environment that encourages curiousity, accountability, hard work and hands-on participation.”
