Effective May 1, 2018

After recently serving dual roles as Interim Finance Director and Deputy County Executive, today, William “Bill” Letteri announced his appointment to Chief Finance Officer on a permanent, full-time basis, effective May 1, 2018.

While serving in both roles, Mr. Letteri has been instrumental in assisting with the aggressive recruitment for a Finance Director to replace Betty Burrell, who retired at the start of the year. That recruiting process was unsuccessful in identifying an external candidate that exemplified the leadership and experience that the County requires in this critical position.

“As I have considered our strategy regarding how to best fill this critical position and after much analysis and discussion, I am excited to announce that Bill Letteri has accepted this challenge on a full-time basis,” said County Executive Jeff Richardson. “Bill and I came to this decision together and are both very pleased and confident that the organization’s needs and Bill’s greatest strengths align in the areas of organizational financial management and leadership.”

“During our FY 19 Budget and CIP planning process, as the Board has been considering the ways in which we fund our Capital Improvement Program and exploring the possibility of future Bond Referendums, it has become increasingly clear that we need someone with Bill’s background and expertise to help us plan for the future,” said Board Chair Ann Mallek. “On behalf of the Board, we are so excited for this opportunity to build on the past success of our Finance Department and its wonderful staff, while at the same, plan for our organization’s future financial success.”

Mr. Letteri has over 24 years of experience in local government. Most recently, as Albemarle County Deputy County Executive since January 2011. Prior to his employment with Albemarle County, he served for 12 years with the City of Charlottesville as Chief of Facilities and Public Works Administration and two years as Director of Public Works for Chapel Hill, NC, where he provided direction and oversight for multiple Public Works divisions, including Facilities Management, Capital Improvements, Environment and Sustainability, Solid Waste Services, Landscaping, Streets and Sidewalks, Fleet Management and Stormwater.

His previous experience includes serving as the Chief Financial Officer for REA Development and as President of Letteri Brothers general contracting firm, both in Charlottesville. Mr. Letteri earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, Finance and Accounting, from Cornell University and an MBA in Finance and Administration from James Madison University.

“The County is at a critical point in terms of urbanization, size and complexity, and I am very excited to assume this very important and challenging opportunity at this time,” said Mr. Letteri following the announcement of his appointment. “I look forward to leveraging my professional experience and focusing on maintaining and strengthening the County’s strong financial position on behalf of our Board and citizens.”
