Please join us in celebrating, across the district, Virginia’s Farm-to-School Week and Charlottesville’s Healthy Schools Week on October 1, 2018-October 5, 2018.
What: City Schoolyard Garden celebrates Farm to School Week/Healthy Schools Week with the Charlottesville City Schools during the first full week of October. Charlottesville City Schools, in collaboration with City Schoolyard Garden and Local Food Hub have also created a week’s menu full of locally-procured, healthy, from-scratch lunches for Healthy Schools Week. In addition to healthy lunches, CSG is coordinating farm animal visits and garden lessons focusing on farming activities. See what we are bringing to your school below!
Tuesday October 2nd
Urban Agriculture Collective of Charlottesville (UACC) farmers visit Clark Elementary to make Scarecrows.
Casa Alma brings goat to Charlottesville High School to discuss urban farming with Garden-to- Market class.
Piedmont Master Gardeners bring an activity highlighting the agricultural origin of many household items to Clark Elementary.
Whisper Hill Farm visit to Burnley-Moran Elementary for a fresh veggie tasting.
Wednesday October 3rd
Bellair Farm visits Buford Middle School.
Little Hat Creek Farm visits the Charlottesville High School discussing small scale production with the Urban Farming class.
Thursday October 4th
Harvest of the Month celebrated at all schools.
Caromont Farm brings goats to Venable Elementary.
–with a special visit from the VA Secretary of Education.
Central Virginia Beekeepers Association brings an observation hive to Greenbrier Elementary.
Friday October 5th
Farfields Farm visits Jackson-Via Elementary.
Apple Press/Cider Making at Burnley-Moran Elementary.
Local farmers collaborate to bring cotton and animal fiber lesson to Johnson Elementary.
Our 9th Annual Fall Harvest Festival at Buford Middle School open to the Charlottesville-area Community.
