David Plunkett will be the new Director of Jefferson-Madison Regional Library beginning January 1, 2018.

Plunkett was selected following a nation-wide search by the Regional Library Board of Trustees.  According to Library Board President Peter McIntosh, “It was a competitive process with many qualified applicants, and in the end David was the unanimous choice of our nine-member Board of Trustees.”

Plunkett is well-known locally. He is a 1992 graduate of Charlottesville High School, he received his undergraduate degree from Brown University and his graduate degree in Library and Information Science from Louisiana State University. David started at JMRL in 2002 at Gordon Avenue Library and for the past four years has served as the regional library’s Collections and Technology Manager, overseeing the library’s computer services and the ordering and processing of books.

Plunkett is looking forward to his new position and said “I am very excited to serve the people of Charlottesville, Albemarle, Greene, Louisa, and Nelson. Central Virginia values reading and equal access to information, and expects and deserves the high level of service that JMRL provides. I’m looking forward to working with JMRL’s excellent staff and library board to continue the great tradition of free and open public library service in this community.”

Plunkett will be replacing John Halliday, who has been Library Director since 1997.

Jefferson-Madison Regional Library serves the residents of Albemarle, Charlottesville, Greene, Louisa, and Nelson with nine branch libraries including the Bookmobile.
