What is the most challenging aspect of your job?
Children with disabilities benefit most in learning through repetition, so finding ways for them to practice skills that are challenging to them in fun, developmentally appropriate ways can be difficult.

What is the most common misconception about your job?
I believe one of the most common misunderstandings about Early Childhood Special Education is that our day is all play. While we embed many learning opportunities for our children in play, we also are responsible for teaching them skills that span every area of development. These areas can include skills such as dressing, walking, counting, or writing their names.

Where do you see the teaching field in five years?
I see education as being more collaborative. There are many initiatives to create groups within schools that collaborate with each other. I hope that this collaborative momentum would continue to create waves amongst colleagues to reach out to others in the division and state to share knowledge and create positive change.

What outside experience best prepared you to become an educator?
My creative endeavors have most prepared me to be a Special Education teacher. I use my creative skills constantly to present information and teach skills in ways that incorporate students interests and strengths.
