Legal Advice and Representation for Evictions and Tenant Issues

The Central Virginia Legal Aid Society (CVLAS) provides free non-criminal legal advice for people with low incomes. Legal representation is available for housing-related cases such as eviction defenses, foreclosure prevention, housing voucher problems, lockouts, utility cutoffs, repair and maintenance problems, and security deposit recovery.

Eligibility Requirements:
  • You are a legal U.S. resident.
  • Your income is less than or equal to 125% of the federal poverty line. Examples as of 2025:
    • $26,438 for a family of 2
    • $40,188 for a family of 4
  • Your liquid assets are less than $5,000.
