Democrat Wes Bellamy is a candidate for Charlottesville City Council. Three of the five at-large seats on Council will be determined in the Nov. 3 election. Other candidates include: Scott Bandy (I); Kathy Galvin (D); Anson Parker (R); and Mike Signer (D).

Bio: Wes Bellamy is a teacher at Albemarle High School. He is the founder and Executive Director of Helping Young People Evolve (HYPE), a mentoring program for boys and girls in the greater Charlottesville area. He also serves as Vice President of the 100 Black Men of Central Virginia. Wes holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Management from South Carolina State University and a Masters in Education Administration and Supervision at Virginia State University. He is currently pursuing his doctorate in education. Wes is committed to strengthening the city through cooperative, unified action.

Other interests and experiences:
I enjoy helping people and building bridges. Whether it’s teaching children of all ethnic and racial backgrounds self-discipline through boxing, or organizing community vigils and church services, I like to see us working together. It’s time to break down the barriers of this community and move forward collectively. I recently got engaged, and I am now a father of three princesses ages 5, 6, and 7. I look forward to them controlling my life for the next few decades.
