On September 27, 2012 a public meeting will be held on the Western Bypass project to gather input on a draft environmental assessment prepared by VDOT. A key question is whether the Federal Highway Administration should conduct a new environmental assessment of the Western Bypass to evaluate the new 2012 road design and environmental regulations approved since 2003 when the federal government last issued an approval for the 6.2 mile four-lane highway.
