Is the state of local news on your mind? 

We know we’re not alone in caring deeply about local news. Charlottesville Tomorrow’s readers are active and engaged — you’re looped into what’s going on in central Virginia and statewide. We often hear how important getting information about your neighbors and the region is to you.

Next week, our CEO and Editor-in-Chief Angilee Shah will join a panel of Virginia news leaders to discuss the state’s information ecosystem. The word “ecosystem” is important to us, as it reflects how local news is an interconnected and interdependent landscape. Charlottesville Tomorrow is committed to strengthening that ecosystem. 

For example, this year Charlottesville Tomorrow worked with Charlottesville Inclusive Media, the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation and the Listening Post Collective to launch an Information Ecosystem Assessment of Fluvanna, Louisa, Madison and Nelson Counties.   

We have a vision of robust, vibrant journalism across the state that benefits us all, and we look forward to joining the panel to share our learnings as well as hear the experiences of other news leaders. Join the conversation, which will be held at Washington and Lee University on Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 5:30 p.m. 

The other panelists are Chris Coates from Lee Enterprises, which owns The Daily Progress here in Charlottesville among over 70 newspapers around the country; Doug Harwood of the Rockbridge Advocate; Cardinal News’ Megan Schnabel; David Seidel from Virginia Public Radio’s Radio IQ; and Darryl Woodson at The News-Gazette. Eric Deggans, critic-at-large at National Public Radio (NPR) and the Knight Professor of Journalism and Media Ethics at Washington and Lee University, will moderate.
