Local organizations are hosting a community mural painting and art therapy event “that celebrates love, empathy and connection through art” at the University of Virginia. It will take place this Thursday, Dec. 4 and everyone in the community is welcomed.

ArtLords, a global grassroots movement of artists and volunteers that started in Afghanistan, will initiate the mural painting in the morning. The community is invited to help paint the mural from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the Commonwealth Room at Newcomb Hall, located at 180 McCormick Rd.
The theme of the mural painting will focus on “harnessing the transformative power of art to transcend borders and build love, empathy and connection,” according to a flyer advertising the event. The event will be hosted by ArtLords in collaboration with local refugee nonprofit Cville Tulips and the Democratic Futures Project, a Karsh Institute of Democracy initiative that connects academics, advocates and policymakers to strengthen democratic institutions.
