UVA is circulating a survey so members of the university community can weigh in on what it should prioritize as it develops a new long-term strategic plan. There is also an option for local community stakeholders in Charlottesville to share their views.
The five to 10 minute-survey about UVA’s future closes on Sunday, Aug. 30. Participants rate how well UVA is doing in research, education, public service to Virginia and beyond, providing healthcare to local residents and more. The survey also asks what UVA should prioritize over the next five to 10 years, and seeks specific ideas that would help the university achieve these goals.
President Scott Beardsley chartered a 22-member Strategic Planning Committee in July to help him develop the plan, which will shape UVA’s priorities for years to come, according to the university communications website UVA Today. The committee is made up of students, faculty, staff, Board of Visitors members and alumni and will build on ideas and suggestions Beardsley gathered during his “Grounds for Conversation” listening tour, which began shortly after he first took office in January. The release also says that the committee plans to present a final plan to the Board of Visitors for review in April 2027.
UVA began a new academic year on Aug. 20, following more than a year of significant upheaval. Former President Jim Ryan departed in June 2025 under intense pressure from the Trump administration. His departure was followed by months of disputes over the Board of Visitors’ governance and transparency, the university’s presidential search and a controversial agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice. After a contentious search, the Board selected Beardsley as UVA’s 10th president in December 2025.
